Japanese Owner History

If you want to know how many owners your vehicle had in Japan & their location we can supply a full list of Japanese registration events from first registration right up to export.

This provides a complete record of all registration events in Japan starting with the first registration date in Japan, then registration transfer dates including location & reason for transfer, owner name & address information (some details will be redacted for privacy), plus the expected & confirmed export dates. *Only the most recent license plate number will be shown.

From this you can trace the movement of the vehicle between dealers & private / company owners in different parts of Japan from first registration until ultimate export.

This service is ideal for collector cars where knowing the full Japanese owner history & provenance is important to produce a complete owner history record across countries & support future value.

NOTE: The Japanese Owner History is a list of owner & registration changes so does not include mileage information – if this is required please order the Japanese Registration Certificate or our Basic, Intermediate or Full Check.

The cost is 195 USD* for a color PDF scan & English translation of the Japan Owner History sent by email, or 270 USD* for both Registration Certificate + Japanese Owner History (50 USD discount when ordered together) including professional English translations for both documents.

*Vehicles will typically have between one (1) & three (3) pages of Owner History, but this depends on the number of past registration events which we won’t know until we obtain your documents. The 1st page is included in the above prices. For each additional page we charge 30 USD to cover additional application fees & translation – this amount will be invoiced to you if required, before we commence translation.

Japanese Owner History – About

The Japanese Owner History is the full Registration Record from the Transport Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport & Tourism Japan (MLIT).

This is an official watermarked document usually between 1 and 3 pages in length depending on how many registration events a vehicle has had while in Japan.

Most vehicles with multiple owners will have 1 to 2 pages of history, sometimes 3.

Information shown includes the dates for all events – initial registration, title transfers, owner names & addresses, issue of export certificate, intended & actual export dates. *Only the most recent license plate number will be shown and some owner address information will be redacted for privacy.

This provides a complete record of every registration, transfer & owner change, together with first & last registrations & the export date from Japan.

*Note that most vehicles will typically have one (1) or two (2) pages of owner history, but we won’t know how many pages there are until we obtain your documents. One (1) page is included in the above price.

Japanese Dealer Service Records

Dealer (& private) service records are not publicly available information & cannot be supplied with any of our services.

These types of records would only be supplied by the Japanese seller / exporter of the vehicle to the importer in another country – either by including them inside the vehicle or posting them separately following export.

Exclusions

Not available for vehicles last registered in Japan before 1999.

Japanese Owner History & Registration Certificates can only be obtained AFTER a vehicle has been exported from Japan (OR de-registered within Japan & the number plates officially returned).

Not available for < 990cc engine cars, motorcycles or scooters.

Redactions

The Japanese Transport Authority redacts a small amount of user information from the Japanese Owner History records. 

This is done for personal privacy reasons & doesn’t affect the completeness of the record in terms of knowing the number & location of owners in Japan & the reasons for each transfer.
