    Japanese Auction Records

    Reports typically include the following details for auction events in Japan:
    • Location, date, grade (condition), sale price#, auction report & pictures
    Detailed notes on the auction report (written in Japanese) may state:
    • Extras fitted, odometer replacements & total kms, extent & location of past repairs, repaint, rust, dents, scratches, interior & body condition
    This information is often very revealing and may be all you need to know about a vehicle, particularly if you are considering buying it. Obtaining the auction records independently is a good way to check whether a seller is telling you the truth about kms and condition or has supplied a genuine auction report (these are often digitally falsified – changing grade R (repaired) to grade 4 for example).

    Of course, we can always upgrade to a FULL Check later if you would like further information, such as past registration dates & km readings to provide a more complete picture of the vehicle’s Japanese history.

    Notes:
    • Auction Records start from 2007 onwards so for vehicles exported from Japan in 2006 or earlier please consider our Intermediate Check instead
    • When you send your Enquiry we will check the VIN against auction records, then advise you what is available & your payment options
    • Multiple auction records may be available for some vehicles
    • Auction records from 2007 to 2009 generally include auction details and report only (no images of the vehicle itself)
    • Allow + 10 USD & 1 day if you’d like English translation of the auction report
    • European cars with long VINs often require manual search – 90% find rate
    • #Sale price is not available for all vehicles and will depend on whether this was recorded by the auction at the time. For USS auctions from 2017+, auction result (sale price) data can be added at additional cost – allow + 10 USD if required

    Use this data to check whether kms showing on the vehicle are genuine

    Check whether the Export Certificate supplied by a seller is genuine

    Report also includes:

    • Deregistration date and location
    • Reported accidents, theft, hail, flood and fire damage

    • Radiation testing (if applicable)

    Notes:
    • Please be certain the vehicle was registered in Japan before requesting this check as we cannot refund once data has been sought from the Japanese Transport Authority.

  • What's my Chassis Code (VIN) and where do I find it ?
    We require the VIN used in Japan in order to check available records.
    New Zealand and some other countries issue an entirely new VIN which is unrelated to the original VIN and cannot be used for searches within Japan. The original VIN will be shown on the manufacturer build plate attached to the car – please see above link for typical location examples.
  • Why is this important ?

    Japanese auction records are available for vehicles auctioned from 2007 to current. If your vehicle was exported from Japan in 2006 or earlier then auction records will not be available.

    Japanese Transport Authority Records are usually available for vehicles exported from Japan within the last 10 years.
